With their songwriting on the new release “I Did This To Myself”, Thundercat and Lil Yachty dive into the pitfalls of unrequited love in quite quirky yet emotive manner.

Last year, I called out that a Thundercat album is on it’s way soon and it seems like that prediction is slowly materializing. Over these past few releases, I’ve become a staunch Thundercat fan and this new one just cements my feelings towards his music. Here, we’re greeted with an incredibly funky groove that’s led by the bass line and the punchy drums. It’s really his vocal performance that breathes life into the track, bringing warmth, personality, and a human touch to the infectious rhythm. Floating across the mix are also these glittery keys that are frequently contrasted with raw guitar embellishments.
