Jam sessions are a wonderful place to explore the freedom of music and soak in the talent of musicians around you. They (often) foster respect, creativity, and birth beautiful experiences, and one of those initiatives in Toronto, started by HMLT (pronounced “Hamlet”), led to the creation of today’s whimsical homage to 90s r&b and soul music.
“It Takes a Village” is the debut single from the Takes a Village Music collective, who used the weekly Potluck jam sessions to create and channel their energy into something special. The song features mesmerizing lead vocals from Winnie Wong and Chara Kai-Le, with Dani Saldo on chorus writing, HMLT on bass, Troy on guitar, and Kyden on keys.
Just like a jam session, it embodies the spirit of collaboration, community, and creativity. Honestly, I felt that warm feeling of a Sunday spent with my family, and as soon as I heard it, there was warmth channeled through me. A gift to all of us, this is the first of many songs prepared by the collective, so stay tuned for more.
