I’ve been riding the energy wave of Shigeto’s brand new LP Cherry Blossom Baby and wanted to spotlight one of my personal favorites on the record. A feature with Detroit rapper Zelooperz and Ian Maciak.

As mentioned in my review, I appreciate the Detroit brigade Shigeto has gathered around him. A strong bastion when it comes to experimental, electronic and hip hop music. I appreciate the breakbeat crafted by Zach and the flow of Zelooperz (real name Walter Williams Jr.). The rapper is known for his experimental, gritty style and unique vocal delivery. Something you can quickly spot in “Ready. Set. Flex.”. Also, he’s a member of Bruiser Brigade, a collective led by Danny Brown, and has built a reputation in the underground rap scene for his genre-blending approach, often combining abstract, raw lyricism with unpredictable flows and beats. Couldn’t think of a better fit for Shigeto’s production.
