From the instrumental section to the stellar vocal performance, Ericalisa has acquainted us with such an uplifting listening experience on her newest release, “Pretend”.
Bay Area-born singer and songwriter Ericalisa carries an aesthetic that is heavily influenced by 1990s and early 2000s r&b, hip hop, and soul. This is exactly what we’re acquainted with on “Pretend” as she delivers a soulful blend of ’90s nostalgia and contemporary smoothness. The slick bass reminds us of Sade’s work, while the rhythm section is adorned with vibrant percussion to bring life to the groove. Her vocals seamlessly capture the excitement and uncertainty of new romance thanks to her lively performance, and this is contrasted by soothing pads decorated across the background.
