Before I played the track and properly looked at the artist’s name, I was expecting to hear Darius and some of the his signature disco house. But boy was I mistaken.
Dariush is an Austrian/Persian producer and sound engineer, and his sound couldn’t be further from disco or house. “Shades of Shiraz” is one of the smoothest tracks I’ve heard in a while with an incredible guitar solo. The track is giving Khruangbin paired with J Dilla in the best possible way and I am here for it. His sound has been heavily influenced by jazz and hip hop, with some of my favourite names like Nujabes, Madlib and MF DOOM as key influences. I can highly recommend checking out his full release Given Against the Demons, as this was a delicious sonic journey well suited for darker November days.
I am excited to explore more of what Dariush has to offer as both a solo artist and independent producer, but also as part of various collaborations and mixes. There is some real talent there.
