boy 2000 has released his latest project, ultraspirit, with the atmospheric “phoenix” emerging as one of its standout moments.
What I find fascinating about boy 2000’s aesthetic is how he balances nostalgic, lofi elements with themes from the future. Within the larger ultraspirit project, “phoenix” represents the moment he is reborn as a robot. Vocals, which sound like they’re from the 2000s, breathe life and a soulful charm into the track, while thick, airy pads wrap the production in a cinematic warmth that beautifully complements the futuristic concept. The glittery melodic textures that arrive later sparkle across the mix, brightening up the experience.
