Fisher Cat’s “Pekan” is an odd one. The type of music I rarely feature on here, but also the type of music that reaches a specific part of my brain, almost nothing else does. Growing up on Midwest Emo, post-rock, and lots of doom-y kind of music, the minimalistic guitar composition blew me away.
The song came into my inbox with a short intro of Fisher Cat that stated, “I live in a deeply wooded area in Vermont, not too far from Springfield. There are no stores or traffic lights where I live, and almost all of the roads are dirt roads. Playing and listening to music is what I do late at night.” Reading that, I couldn’t imagine anything better to pair the music with. While it may sound too secluded to some, this sounds like a blissful life to me, and while I write this from my apartment in the middle of the city, for a moment, I felt like I was somewhere else. Somewhere far away.
