While many associate Ibiza with endless electronic parties, the Spanish island is home to some really talented artists from other genres, and today I’m excited to spotlight one of them – composer Pere Navarro.
The composer and multi-instrumentalist debuts on Stereofox with a joint release featuring our favourite saxophonist, Braxton Cook, who was the face of our nu jazz playlist until recently (read our interview here). The Spanish-American pair’s work moves naturally between contemporary jazz, soul, and r&b, and I bet “You Know” will find its place in your soul too.
For Pere Navarro, this release marks a subtle but meaningful shift as he steps away from the trumpet and puts composition, piano, and songwriting front and centre alongside Cook. Rooted in soul and contemporary jazz, the track keeps the harmonic depth and freedom of jazz intact while pushing his work towards a more distinct, intimate body of compositions. Couldn’t be more excited for this guy!
