Earlier this month, Chiminyo unveiled his latest body of work NRG 5 – a collaboration with 5 incredibly talented musicians that feels like SUCH a spellbinding experience when you hear these masters at work.
Chiminyo is a drummer and producer from North London who explores the space between electronic music and jazz. Part of the reason the album is so compelling is that it’s actually a live recording from a show, and we hear everything from the audience too. One of the standout moments here is the 3rd track “Somnus”, a slow-burner that is held together by the groovy rhythm section and funky bass line. The background is adorned with an array of spacey embellishments that eventually make way for a sax solo towards the closing moments.
